For alignment issues please  use merge columns property  and apply colour to the container ie set background colour for pagecolumn if you are using a list.To change settings for Excel go to the main page for properties of the report
and Change the format to Run as Excel
Hope that helps

Please try this to solve the Excel Problem:

The default Internet setting for Automatic Prompting is Disable, which prevents downloads. (The default Intranet setting is Enable.) To reset this to Enable, follow the steps below:

Steps -

To reset the default Internet setting for Automatic Prompting for file file downloads to Enable:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. From the Tools menu click Internet Options.
3. Select Security tab, select Internet then Custom level.
4. Go to Downloads.
5. Click Enable for the option Automatic prompting for the file downloads.

Ensure .XLS file is associated with Excel and configure to open after download:

1. Right click My Computer and select Explore.
2. From the Tools menu, click Folder Options, File Types.
3. Select Microsoft Excel Worksheet.
4. Select the File Types tab and click Advanced.
5. Select the Confirm Open after download check box and click New. Click OK, and then Click Close.
