Title: Linking FM Project Content
Post by: Opher on 18 Nov 2005 02:51:11 PM
Hello -

Doesn't appear that linking has been covered in any other thread, so here goes:

The documentation is less than complete on linking between FM Projects.Ã,  The emphasis is on creating 'Segments' and linking the segment into a project.Ã,  But the segment is itself a project, creating what appears to be more overhead.

My goal is to have a collection of "leaf" projects where the metadata of the schema is collected, ambiguities resolved and additional required metadata is collected (such as default format, prompt, etc.) into a business view.Ã,  After forming the business view in a namespace, it is ready to share among various enterprise models for production.

So I create an Enterprise FM Project and link to the needed "leaf" namespaces.

Here's where the problem is:Ã,  You cannot see the source of a linked object in the UI.Ã,  It is not there.Ã,  Obviously FM knows the source - changes are populated - but the UI does not display the properties of the link (source project, namespace name, etc.).Ã,  This is very important when doing impact analysis, but appears not to be available.

It appears that the SDK offers no additional functionality in this regard.

Has anyone else gone down this path already?Ã,  Am I missing some functionality which will make this more usable.

Thanks,
Opher
