Title: [Unsolved] Display Filters as Text in Report Footer/Header/Body
Post by: rlcaputo on 18 Nov 2005 02:34:03 PM
I would like to display my filters on my reports so users know exactly what is being filtered. I am not talking about prompt filters, but Tabular Model Filters that are static and applied. Yes I can cut and paste but that is not dynamic and creates a mess. I did it in Impromptu but cannot seem to find a way to do it in ReportNet Report Studio.

Any Ideas?

Many Thanks,

Bob

Cheers

Since the filters are static, I don't see why you can't paste them in the report.  You can use ParamDisplayValue for the prompts that were selected since they're dynamic.

No I have not gotten an answer yet.

Since a report is a living document, it should be dynamic.

If I got a report with a static copy of an outdated filter and was working on the data using the outdated filter for reference I would be pissed. If my boss wasted his time on it I would be looking for other opportunities!!!!! (read unemployed) Can't take the chance or need the maintenance headace.

Still looking.....................................................................

A possibility could be turning your filters into prompts. Set the prompst on your report page, give them a default value (thus recreating your 'static' filter) and set the visibility to hidden.

Now you can use the 'ParamDisplayValue', the user won't know the difference.

Let me know if this helps.

Does it seem strange to anyone else that this behavior (displaying the filter values) is default in the page header for reports created in Query Studio, and we have to bend over backwards to create it in Report Studio?

I have to agree that this is a pain...Very interested in knowing if anybody found a solution for that.  Using prompts sounds like a good workaround but still is not very useful if you try to automate the report.

When you send a report built in Query Studio in Report Studio, the "filters" at the top become text boxes... which I am no fan of..!!

I don't think a 'Query Studio'-like solution as available for Report Studio.

I think the consensus here is that it isn't possible to display filters dynamically in the report.Ã,  I'm closing this thread and marking it "unsolved."
