Title: Cognos - Oracle Auditing link
Post by: stevejbr on 02 Apr 2009 07:50:32 AM
Hello;
Is there a way for me (Oracle) to determine who is executing an adhoc query executed through Cognos.  Oracle auditing captures the execution but only identifies it as the generic Cognos account running in Oracle.  Within Cognos auditing I see users running reports/adhoc but cannot link this session to the Oracle captured data.  The Cognos session id in Cognos audit data is encrypted, and not directly to the Oracle saved session id.

Did I miss something in the Cognos setup?
Is there a way to link the two saves audit data (Cognos and Oracle)?
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Steve

I do not have any experience using Oracle audit but would it help if Cognos embedded information in sql comments?
Take a look at Administration and Security Guide (chapter7 on 8.4) "Add Application Context to Dynamic SQL":
"
As an IBM Cognos 8 administrator, you can define a custom string that includes application context
that is added as a comment marker within SQL generated by the application. You can use literals,
macros, and session variables, such as a user name, server name, qualified report path, and so on,
to customize the comment generated by Cognos 8.
