Title: Cognos upgrade from 6.6 to 7.4
Post by: Jgeorge on 27 Mar 2009 12:39:14 PM
Hi ,

I am trying to upgrade my current Cognos cubes (6.6) which are deployed on the Cognos server 6.6
to Cognos 7.4 Web Server version.

1. Can I directly open the model in the 7.4 Transformer and start building the cubes?
2. Is there any prerequisites steps needs to be done before doing the migration.

Thanks In Advance
George

In general the following steps should be performed assuming you are using IQDs as data sources:
- open up the 6.6 catalog and upgrade that
- open up each individual IMRs and upgrade these reports
- then open up each upgraded IMR and resave as IQD
- open up Transformer and then make sure transformer is using the newly created IQDs
- build cube

(yes, its painful, but this is the safest and it is also a supported upgrade path by IBM Cognos.  Also, depending on logic changes in the cube, you will eventually have to rewrite the catalog and/or IMR/IQD sometime in the future which will require you to upgrade the reports and catalog)
