Title: Conditional formatting - if this cell =Red, therefore other cell = Red too
Post by: WKar on 18 Mar 2009 12:40:57 PM
Hello,

So my question is if I set up conditional formatting for certain intersection cells in my cross tab.. and depending on the finiancial data, it could be Red, Yellow, or Green.  Well let say it equals Red, but there is the cell next it that doesnt have the same calculation so the same conditional fromatting logic wouldn't work, but I want that intersection to be Red too. How can i do this??

Attached is an Excel export of the report.. notice how the full number to the left is white, i want that to match the color of the percentage.  Please Advise, thank you!

Does anyone know if this is something that cant be done in Cognos BI 8.3?

Try setting the condition on the xTD Member Fact Cells, rather than the entire Crosstab's Fact Cells, or the measure member fact cells.

What do you mean by xTD member fact cells?

Right now the way i set the formated cells was by selecting the certain cells(intersections) that I wanted the conditioning on.  I did not unlock the report or anything, but i didnt do the entrie thing of fact cells either.

If you could please specify a little more Id really appreciate it!!

xTD ... represents your 3 "to date" (YTD, QTD and MTD) members... thought that would be figured out.  Anyway...

Assuming you have explicitly defined these in your columns of the crosstab:

It will only be set on all the fact cells that pertain to YTD, and will include both the number and the % measure columns, that are nested under the YTD member.

Repeat for the other xTD column edges

So i select MTD and do as u indicate..Whats the difference in using  Conditional Styles vs Style Variable?

I used the Conditional style on the previous, not familar with the Style Variable property or how to use it.  Im testing it now, but is it ok to use conditional style?  what am i losing doing that?

Style Variable is based on the data...  Create a Variable that can be a boolean or string and gives you the ability to apply a great many formatting options based on the Condition of the variable.

I am not sure one method (Condition Style or Style Variable) is better than the other, but I have used the Style Variable with Conditional Formatting quite succesfully, so that is my personal preference.

See but in this case, the numbers that are in the white box arent meaningful/wouldn't drive the condition.  Its basically the precentages to the right drive the color condition and then from that, that would make the white box (the full number figure the same color as the percentage box.  Forgive me if i jsut cant see it, but I dont see how style variable would give me that?

Am i completely mising something? I appreciate your patience :)
