Title: Installation & Configuration of Multiple Instances of Data Manager
Post by: cognosjon on 12 Mar 2009 10:20:09 AM
Hi I'm after a bit of help or guidance as this area is new to me ???

I've a Development server that has 8.1 BI Server installed and a full installation of Data Manager 8.1
I've a requirement for this dev server to also house an 8.3 environment. Now I know that I can have a seperate instance of the BI server running as long as I use different ports, but I'm concerned that I'm going to hit a snag with Data Manager 8.3 due to the Socket server service. Is there a way to rename the service from that which is used by the 8.1 install??

I've tried the Install docs but don't believe this information to be in there and can't seem to find anything that exists about it in the Cognos KB.

Any help appreciated

Did you try running the DS services at different ports between 8.1 & 8.3?

Hi,

Yes I did try using different ports, however  when I tried to start the service I kept getting errors that appeared to relate to the Socket server service already being in existence. Due to the workload pressure I instead installed the datamanger client onto a different machine for now but will be coming back to look at this issue in a few weeks time.

Thanks for your reply
