Title: Cognos 8.2 talking to MSAS 2005
Post by: david.stachon on 05 Feb 2009 03:01:06 PM
Hi,

I'm working on a project right now that requires passing through an "An external namespace" signon to SQL Server Analysis Services 2005. (cube has security applied on dimensional members).

The good news, everything is Active Directory, and the IT people are getting Kerberos installed and configured to allow delegation between the Cognos 8.2 Server and the SQL Server.

...the only thing I'm not sure of...

In Cognos Configuration, the namespace type for my Active Directory connection is "LDAP" as opposed to "Active Directory". (Apparently, this was necessary in 8.1 when the original install happened).

...could this be a problem? I imagine swapping namespaces types will require quite of bit of manual effort (i.e. groups, roles, my folders, etc...)

thanks,
david.

Hi David

That will be a problem indeed. "External namespace" signon to SQL Server Analysis Services 2005 only works with AD Namespaces.
