Title: Brand New to the SDK, looking for advice...
Post by: jguevin on 12 Jan 2009 12:12:02 PM
Afternoon all,
Have a few questions regarding the SDK.  We are brand new to the SDK and are looking for some direction/information/advice.

1.  Does anyone suggest one programming language vs the other to use with the SDK?  I'm guessing Java because of its flexibility but not really knowing the differences between Java and .Net and C# am not sure.  Any thoughts?

2.  We currently have Cognos BI 8.3 and are happy with it.  We got the SDK in order to have more flexibility in creating reports as well as being able to integrate it with our own intranet (plus we got a deal on it when we purchased other license bundles).  I'm guessing that we can really get under the covers with the SDK to customize our experience.  Am I way off with this assumption?

3.  Once we get the programming language down, how easy it it to use the SDK and customize things?

4.  What are others using the SDK for?

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.
Regards
Jeff

Hi,
Currently we are using java as it is available free.  We didn't do much portal customizations using sdk so far, but we did use it for querying the content store by which we can avoid lot of manual work and save lot of time.

thanks cogcom,
We are in the process of upgrading to 8.4 and what sort of gave it away, if you will, is the splash screen now has the IBM logo as well as the Java logo.  We will go the Java route.
