Title: Frozen Login Screen
Post by: pribacus on 20 Nov 2008 07:44:05 PM
Dear All:

I have a frozen login screen when i try to connect to Cognos Connection.
Does anyone have any idea what's causing this issue? I have to restart the server to fix this issue.

FYI, we are using Cognos 8.3 here.
I used to have CAM-AAA-0027 error, I fix it after I decrease the maximum memory to 768MB in Cognos Configuration setting(document#1040901.2).
Now no more CAM-AAA-0027 error, but i got new issue.

Thanks in Advance everybody!!!

Check that your web server extensions for cgi are allowed (or isapi)

Is you bi app servers on UNIX?

If they are check to see how many java process you have running that are owned by cognos.  If there are multiples you either have to restart services or you will have to kill the extra java process.

Have you tried to wait the problem out?  i am having issues with an 8.3 installation where it is SLOW, very very slow but it works.  When I say slow I mean 8-10 minutes to get past the "cognos 8" jpg that pops up and to the login screen from there another 8-10 minutes after I click login to load the default page.  Everything works but incredibly slow and I am trying to solve this issue right now.

If your having the same issue please let me know we might be able to help each other out with troubleshooting.  My server will work fine for 4-8 days then slow done suddenly and randomly.  Very difficult to troubleshoot and fix.
Every time restarting the service fixes the issue for another 4-8 days.

how much memory is in your server, and to what value is the java stack in cognos configuration set?

Hi,

we were also facing the same issue. in our case there was BIBusTKServerMain.exe was consuming lots of processors even if dint do any activity on server, because earlier it was single server installation but later we changed to distributed installation on 2 server.

we just uninsulated & installed it again it is working fine now.

Check your BIBusTKServerMain.exe in Task manager on your server when your not doing any activity on it.

wish u good luck.

Regards,
Nata

8 gigs on the machine and the java environment is set to large in cognos configuartion, I don't know exactly what you mean by value of the java stack.  But the problem has been solved.  Others have experienced the same problems I have and Cognos unofficially said that SP3 would fix the issue and it has, so if anyone else runs into the problem I described (service slowing drastically after a few days) install SP3 and it will likely fix it.
