Title: PDF Rendering
Post by: ComplexQry on 20 Nov 2008 09:58:44 AM
My C8 Reports are taking FOREVER to render in PDF.  What was a 20 Page IWR Report that took 30 seconds, now is a 20 page Report Studio Report that takes 5 minutes.  Are there any Server Settings/Hardware/etc. that could be changed/upgraded or anything to make this go faster?  Our users are very irritated.

EDIT:  This is 8.2

Are you running and rendering the report real-time or in the background?  I've noticed Cognos 8 tends to render reports much more quickly in the background.  I don't think it is acceptable to expect users to always run reports in the background, but in the short-term it may alleviate some pain.

If running it in the background doesn't make a difference in the report run-time, check the SQL generated by the report and run that alone to make sure it's still efficient.  It's certainly possible C8 generates the SQL differently than Series 7.

Welcome to the club.
I'm facing the same issue but particularly in reports with Graph.
IWR reports take around 2 minutes to render 300 graph pages while C8 is taking around 18 minutes.
We are still trying to figure where the issue is.

Can this report be scheduled?  Have does it take forever when rendered to html as well, or only PDF?  Are there multiple queries?
