Title: New to transformer datamodel
Post by: gurudev on 19 Jun 2008 03:51:32 PM
Hi

I am trying to build a cube by two data source.I am new to transformer and cube building.

My one source is the .IMR report written in Impromtu. Now can transformer use .imr file as the data source. What is the difference between .iqd file and .imr file. How does .iqd file get generated.

My second datasource is oracle database. I am trying to extract the
data using winsql tool for and adhoc request where the user wants to analyse the sales data . How and where should I store the extracted physical data . Can I directly connect transformer to the database itself and select the required metadata with odbc connection or what if I extract the physical data and save it in excel and then use it as a data source.
Thanks in advance

Prat

Hi,

You can't use a .imr file as a source for your transformer model. You have to create an .iqd file using the .imr file.

open the .imr file in Impromptu, Save As -> Select .IQD in file type.

You can also create an IQD file for your second datasource. First create a catalog using the Oracle database connection, then import the required tables, create an IMR and save as both .imr and .iqd files.

You could use an Excel file from the .imr output as a datasource to build your cube, but that way you're just adding another unnecessary layer between the datasource and the cube.

Or you could just do just as Gobinath suggested -

save the .imr file as an .iqd file and use the .iqd as the datasource.
