Title: HELP! Traffic Lighting and Color Coding in Reportnet
Post by: rajsmoney on 27 Jul 2005 08:52:16 AM
I am new to reportnet and am having a problem trying to use traffic lighting and colour coding in Reportnet that quickly highlight any areas of failing performance so that they can be rectified.

Please let me if there is any functionality available within Reportnet?

Thanks a bunch!

Raj

Hi Raj,

You can do this in Report Studio by creating a Variable from the Condition Explorer, containing the condition(s) under which you want to use each colour (normally using a String variable containing an if - then - else structure).

Once you have coded this variable, select the column(s) in question, and in the Conditional Style property select your variable.

Lastly, hover over the Condition Explorer on the middle toolbar and select each variable value in turn.Ã,  For each value, set the foreground/background colours of your column(s) to suit.

Best regards,

MF.

You can also use the conditions to display images, to simulate the traffic light effect.

Hi together,

another way to create dashboards and traffic lighting in ReportNet is to use dynamic pictures (e.g. bmp, jpg, gif). Create an calculated column that represent an url to an picture file. If you need some graphics have a look at
http://***URL removed***

good luck,

Jens

HI JENS, THANKS FOR YOUR POST BUT I'VE REMOVED THE LINK AS IT FLIES A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO THE 'ADVERTISING' THAT IS PROHIBITED IN THE FORUM. MY RATIONALE IS:
- THE URL LINK DOES NOT ADD DIRECTLY TO THE INITIAL QUESTION OF 'HOW WOULD REPORTNET BE USED TO DO TRAFFIC LIGHT REPORTING?', YOUR INITIAL REPLY IS SPOT ON AS IT MERELY DEALS WITH HOW REPORTNET'S EXISTING FUNCTIONALITY CAN BE UTILISED....THE LINK JUST TAKES IT A LITTLE OVER THE EDGE
- THE GRAPHICS ARE NOT A FREE RESOURCE (THOUGH COST ON ITS OWN IS NOT PRIMA FACIE) AND THUS THE INSERTION OF THE URL MAY BE INTERPRETED AS ADVERTISING

HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO POST IN 'Introduce yourself and your company!' (OBVIOUSLY WITHOUT THE ADVERTISING) AND GIVE US AN OVERVIEW OF YOURSELF, YOUR COMPANY AND YOUR INVOLVEMENT/ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE COGNOS INDUSTRY.

HOPEFULLY, THIS EXTENSIVE REPLY OF MINE CONVEYS THE IMPORTANCE THE COGNOISE TEAM ATTACHES TO USER INVOLVEMENT (YOUR INVOLVEMENT) AND THAT WE DO NOT STIFLE USER EXPRESSION WITHOUT TRANSPARENCY AND RESPECT.

PLEASE DROP ME A LINE IF THIS DOES NOT PROVE SATISFACTORY AND I WILL REPLY PROMPTLY.

CHEERS,
JON
