Title: Cognos Documentation -Framework Manager
Post by: jrh on 11 Apr 2008 02:16:51 PM
I've found Cognos help to not be so useful.  Are there any technical books out there specific to Cognos Framework manager?

If you trying to learn about Framework Manager from the documentation I think you'll find it very difficult. The best way to learn about modeling is to take on of the courses Cognos or their partners offer.

...Or experiment yourself first, then use the information on this site, Cognos support and other web communities that host discussions like this.

Simply put, BI =
Database (Data Warehouse) ---> Metadata Modeling ---> Reporting

...regardless of the toolset you pick.  If modeling best practices are what you need, then the FM user guide is probably the wrong place to be looking.  This will mostly tell you how to use the product.

As mentioned up top, best practice information can be found all over these places I listed.

Books by Bill Inmon and/or Ralph Kimball would prove helpful as well.

Not to be negative but building F/M projects is not rocket science.

Yes, it can be complex but as another poster pointed out, attending a class from Cognos will be of great help.

If you do not have the basics of data modeling, it will be a tough one however.

Their instructors are top! :D
