hi,
i am new to cognos, i have a requirement where there is where there is a BO universe already build ..i need to shift all reporting to cognos platform
i heard from framework manager ..metadata can be imported from BO universe
correct me if i am wrong
i need help if there is any other way i can connect to BO
Cognos allows you to read a universe design as if it were a model from a datamodelling tool. Does it work? Partly. Is it very usefull? No.
Since a universe is one layer only the best you can get is the import of objects and their relationships. If BO specific assets are used (like applying contexts) then you miss out on these, cause there is no similar concept in FM.
So even if you can a decent import of objects and joins then you still need to work in a transformation and presentation layer (if you go that route)
Creating the database layer by hand may take some more time, but in any case then you know you have a sound start!

what it does?
does it import all tables and joins?
what if there are context?
AFAIK the most you will get are the database objects, joins and the descriptions. All of this is stored in the BO repository. The concept of a BO context is unknown to Cognos, so it will not be able to do anything with it.
As said, your better off with rebuilding the database layer.
Also be aware that a BO universe is aimed at 1 RDBMS only and therefore uses native DB functions. The whole Cognos concept is centered around having in independant Cognos SQL layer

Framework manager user guide that ships with FM. Or the knowledge base of Cognos..
