Title: Migrating fixes without affecting data.
Post by: kyalvin_wee on 10 Mar 2008 04:53:40 AM
Hi

Would anyone be able to help me out with this?

I have a system mainly built in Analyst that has gone live and deals with sensitive forecast data which the client insist we do not have access (not even read) to.

2 Issues with this:

1) Unable to investigate problems (easily and quickly) if there is one reported.
2) Fixes made in development environment will not be able to be transported to production without affecting live data.

Has anyone encountered the same problem and how did you do the migration while still retaining data? Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Did exactly that.
1) Make test environment with random data which is accessible by customer and you. Model there should duplicate customers model => build a data randomizer.
2) Build special transport hub libraries to fill the whole system and use them to a) randomize in 1) and b) transport the changed model into prod and load correct data.
