Title: Export to Excel goes to DOWNLOAD folder instead of Opening on DESKTOP
Post by: movieposters on 04 Apr 2024 01:46:40 PM
Hi, running Report Studio reporting on new laptop.   When running to export results to Excel, etc. why does the output go to the downloads folder vs. opening on the desktop?

Is there a setting in the Browser (Chrome) to redirect output directly to open on the desktop?
Many thanks!

This is normal behavior. Cognos will automatically send the Excel output to the OS, which in your case is Windows, and the browser on Windows will send the output to the downloads folder which is the default folder in Windows for any output coming in for download. The default output can be changed in the browser settings for download.

Some versions of Chrome/Edge/Firefox have settings to automatically open the downloaded file. In my case, Firefox > Settings > Download page has the option (see attached image)

Hi,
Run the report once and wait for Chrome to download the output. When that is complete, click on the Downloads icon in the top right area of the browser, right-click on the downloaded output file, and choose "Always open files of this type".

Cheers!
