Title: How to use parameter map in cognos cube designer
Post by: GeethaKL on 05 Jun 2023 09:13:22 PM
Hello All
I am working on Cognos Analytics 11.2.4
I am designing Date Dimension and have to create Relative Time.
and I dont have current period in my dim date table.
My DBA has created a separate table DIM Control Date table to get the data based on Data processing Date happening every Friday..

My thought is to create a Parameter map and then bring it to Calendar Date level in my Calendar Date Hierarchy(Year, Year Month , date levels).

I am able to create Parameter map for current period from Control Date table but dont know the correct syntax to use it in my Calendar date level(Date Dimension).

please someone point me out in the right direction on How to use Current Period Parameter Map for Date Dimension in cognos cube designer.

Regards
Geetha

I'm not entirely convinced that the approach that you are envisioning is possibly the optimal one.

Cube designer has a fair bit of relative time functionality, which will automatically generate relative time members, built in. You would do that by defining in a property of a level the member key of the member of the level which you want to be set as the current period member. It does not require a column to be explicitly defined as current periods.

You can customize it too.

You would need to re-publish and restart your cubes each time you change the current period so that the member cache can be regenerated with the appropriate relative time members.

I'd invite you to read the redbook and the documentation.
