Hello! Username is good enough and it is SteveDave.
I am in the financial crimes career. I took a job that is going to be more analytical and now here I am. I am trying as hard as I can to find training and learn the in's and out's of Cognos as fast as I can. I took a few Udemy courses and what little bit I could find via JHAuniversity. If anyone has any suggestions for growing my report capabilities I would appreciate it.
Hi Steve
I would suggest to learn MDX functions also (in addition to the regular reporting methods) as it will be very useful when making reports using dimensional sources (cubes, DMRs). Those functions are available in the toolbox of Report Studio.
I really appreciate the reply Cognostechie. I will add MDX to my research list in which I am given time every week to learn whatever I feel will help me out doing my job. I am at a very basic level and have not been able to learn how to communicate my issues on the site so it has been frustrating to say the least. I am happy to add something to my research queue as I would like to at least be competent enough to speak like those who use the application does. On top of that I know Cognos has a lot of potential that I am basically sitting at the bottom of a mountain. I get by at work but I would like to report much more accurately.

Hi,
There are some good learning resources online for Cognos, and you can focus on smaller "bites" of knowledge rather than trying to learn the whole thing in one go. The IBM certifications site has badges you can study for and achieve.

It's probably best to start with something like the Consumer Essentials badge or the Reporting Essentials badge

Good luck!
