Title: Migrating Series 7 to Active Directory
Post by: damienm on 11 Feb 2008 11:08:26 PM
We are currently setting up security via Active Directory, we now are at the stage were we  have two namespaces, Series 7 and AD, does anyone know what the next stage would be? Could we just delete series 7 namespace? or repoint it in Access Manager?

Cannot find any documentation on this, anyone got any idea? we are all new to this so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If you only run Cognos 8, you can delete the Series 7 namespace from Cognos Configuration (from an architecture perspective).

At the user level, you could end up losing My Folders (as I think it's associated with the specific logon used to access Cognos 8), and you could lose application-level security if there are places where userclasses are still being used.

You may want to consider setting the gateway namespace (can't remember where in Cognos Configuration it is), which sets all web users to authenticate to a single namespace -- that way, Series 7 is still there in case you need to fallback to it for some reason.

It isn't well documented, because it hasn't been well thought out.
