Title: Cognos Logon Operation -- why every hour
Post by: CognosPolzovatel on 29 Jan 2008 09:37:46 AM
Question:
I have the audit database setup for our Cognos 8.2 instance. The Logon operation report shows that every day, I (user x) login in every hour, starting from around 12:00 A.M.

I.e.,
Jan 29, 2008 12:05:02 AM 1 hour 19 minutes 59 seconds 873 milliseconds
Jan 29, 2008 12:15:00 AM 1 second 720 milliseconds
Jan 29, 2008 12:15:01 AM 1 hour 39 minutes 59 seconds 963 milliseconds
Jan 29, 2008 12:25:00 AM 1 second 716 milliseconds
Jan 29, 2008 12:25:01 AM 1 hour 0 minutes 0 seconds 70 milliseconds

etc...

When in reality, I am not logged in to Cognos during those times at all. Why is my username being logged as such? What is causing Cognos to mark me as logging in? Is it an event that happens to be running? Is it the actual auditing?

[answering my own question]
I created an event in Event Studio which runs every 10 minutes. When I placed the event 'offline' yesterday, the login history no longer showed my username as logging in every hour (from 12:00 A.M. and onwards). Hence, my current conclusion is that the event running in the background causes for me to appear to login every hour. I have placed the event 'online' and shall see what the result will be tomorrow morning.

FYI: an event/job setup in Cognos causes for user to appear to login during the event/job scheduled time.
