Title: What causes "Please wait while the system checks for prompts" message?

OK experts.

Simple report, one query, one prompt.

When the report is ran with options, save selected and prompt for values, you enter the prompt and click Finish. The following message is displayed: "Please wait while the system checks for prompts".

Now, this is not normally an issue, but when the queues are maxed out, and all I want to do is run this in the background, Cognos throws my report into the interactive (preview) queue anyway, into a pending state, even though I've already filled in the darn prompts.

Why? Why does it need to check for prompts again after they've already been entered? What is Cognos exactly doing here that warrants actually running the report, or doing something server-side, when I've already told it to run in the background?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

The report actually can still show as Executing in the queue (not pending) but sits there for 30 mins with the attached message.

can't answer your question but i think i this can make your misery go away...

.... do not check prompt for values
