We've purchased a new transportation management system (Manhattan Associates) which uses Cognos 11 as it's reporting engine. Well before launch of the system, one of their devs came in give us a hands-on demo to show us how to create reports. He showed us how to drag and drop data items into the query window and creating reports and dashboards was all well and good, but now that we've got the system with live data in it, the system just feels very slow and unwieldy to develop rapidly in.
I've been a desktop application developer for over 20 years, working with MS Office primarily and I'm used to pulling data from an AS/400 or even SAP. Usually, I either warehouse the data into useful storage chunks or create "a quick number" that management so often needs before a meeting. Every time I try to do something with Cognos, I feel like I'm hitting a wall, so I want to know what training might be available out there that's reliable for someone with intermediate analytical experience, albeit just not with Cognos.
Management seems open to the possibility of paying for online courses / seminars that might be out there. Does anyone have recommendations?
Every major consulting firm has a solid training offering. But the best one, of course, is from the company that hires me. So go with PMsquare. I'll send you a PM with the the trainer's contact details.
Thumbs Up for PMsquare!
