Title: Cognos Custom Control for Keyup event in a textbox prompt

I am trying to build a cognos report with custom control/page module where I type in a a value in a text box and with the delay in type for a second automatically refreshes/reprompts the following drop down. I achieved this with inline HTML but I have no luck with custom control/prompt API.
Any guidance or directions will be helpful.
Using Cognos 11.0.10.
