Title: Audit Store and Content Store in different schemas of same Database
Post by: charlie on 27 Jul 2018 03:29:11 AM
Hi All,

Just wondering if having Audit Store and Content Store in the same database, but different schemas will cause any problems?

I have an Oracle database which worked perfectly fine with this setup for one cognos environment. However, in the other, as soon as I imported the content store from a previous version (i did upgrade report specs during the import) an tried to restart the services, the Content Store connection is failing with a generic error (pasted below) that doesnt help.

[Content Manager database connection]
[ ERROR ] The database connection failed.
[ ERROR ] Content Manager is unable to process your request because an unexpected event occurred in the content store database subsystem.

I've tried
- Running the DB cleanup scripts to cleanup the content store schema
- Removing the Audit store connection from Cognos configuration
- Dropped and re-created the content store schema

Nothing worked. Any ideas? My Cognos version is 11.0.10 and I am upgrading from 11.0.6.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Can you take a look in cogserver.log and identify the exact error message(s) being logged?

Cheers!

Nothing is logged in the ../logs/cogaudit.log file (thats the one setup for auditing in my Configuration). Strangely i don't see a cogserver.log file in ../logs

The last entry is when I shut down the services last night, I don't see any entry after that (and now Cognos wont start so nothing gets logged :()

I know that's too little to go on, and that is exactly what is even more frustrating than the actual issue itself.

what user account are you using in running cognos service?

Thanks for your responses guys!

I did manage to work it out. The issue was fixed after dropping and re-creating the database again.

Still not sure what caused it though  ::) Hopefully, it wont re-occur. Fingers crossed!

Cheers!

Coming back to this, I think my DBA had missed to grand the UNLIMITED TABLESPACE privilege to my Content Store User ID. Thus when the content store was fresh and blank, it started up without any issues. But as soon as I imported my content from my production content store which was 16 GB in size (I know! its bad! too many report outputs :( working on cleaning it up), it refused to start again.

I would suggest for you have  a separate directory for the saved report output. Something like filenet.
