Title: Report per email waiting forever

Hello,

there has been an almost similar thread but not completly.

We schedule plenty of reports, some quite big, to be sent by email. Most run without problems but sometimes a report that ran successfully several times gets stuck in status waiting for ever.

In the end we manually cancel the job and of course we could set the default timeout of 0 to like 6000 seconds or so. The question I do have is how do I determine the cause? Since I get no error message how do I know if Cognos, the mail server, the connection or solar winds are responsible?

mostly the cause is the report is too big to send via email. check the size of the attachment vs the allowable size to be sent via email in your system

nah, if they run several times successfully and then once not than I do not believe its the size.

It would be interesting to find out if the same report scheduled to run and save rather than to email still failed intermittently. This would at least rule out the email process if so. Are you using CQE packages (and therefore have the Report Service set to 32-bit) or are you DQM with a 64-bit Report Service? Any errors in cognosserver.log, or (for DQM) in the XQE logs?

it is possible the several times they run successfuly was when the attachment is not too big.

wow this is like Dr. House's (big fan) team doing differential diagnostics...
