Title: SQL Windows Authentication & Running configuration As a Different User
Post by: cognizant on 07 Aug 2017 01:05:39 PM
Hello, I'm configuring Cognos Analytics on Windows Server 2012 using a Microsoft SQL database w/ Windows Authentication.  When I test the connection to the content store, it wants to try connecting using the locally logged in account on the server, even though I have a domain service account plugged into the IBM Cognos service.  The only way to workaround this is to run cogconfig as a different user, enter the service account credentials, and all the connections work.

I found that I can't press the green Start arrow when running configuration as a local account; the startup sequence will get hung on the database connection.  Once the test sequence gets to the content store, it returns a failure to connect error and the startup sequence stops.  The way to get around this is Test the local configuration.  Highlight Local Configuration, then in the toolbar click Actions -> Test.  The content store will display an error, but you can bypass this and click Actions --> Start.  Works every time.

Is there a way to run config as a local account and avoid the content store errors?
