Title: IQD 's ..?
Post by: shri on 11 Dec 2007 05:00:41 AM
How to use IQD's in FM..?  Basically i am creating a cubes using IQD's and then publishing them in FM. Is there a way i can use IQD's directly in FM.

Thanks heaps.

Objects from FM are published into Packages which are in-turn used by report writers.

IQDs are files that are created either in Impromptu (Series 7) or by externalizing query subjects in FM.

FM doesn't "Use" IQDs, per say.  Cubes are built within Powerplay Transformer, and IQDs are used within Transformer to provide Data to the cube build.

Transformer is truly the only application (that I am aware of) that "Uses" IQDs.

Hi,

For the new 8.3 release, IQDs basically become redundant.  Transformer can now use either C8 data source connections and/or Report Studio reports as data sources, which means there's no longer any requirement to mess around creating IQD or CSV files in Framework Manager.

IQDs are old-style technology from back in the days of Impromptu, and my guess is that in future releases, Cognos may well quietly drop support of them within the Cognos 8 environment.  Just my opinion, mind, and no - I've not heard anything from Cognos that effect (before you ask).

Regards,

MF.

In the New Features document for 8.3, Cognos does specify that support for cubes built off Framework Manager Query Subject generated IQD's will be scaled back in future releases

But, that could be a ploy to make you upgrade...they said the same about Impromptu when 8 came out, and now they have extended support for Series 7
