Title: Cognos upgrade in test server
Post by: cognos05 on 27 Jul 2017 04:17:34 PM
Hi,

We are right now in cognos 10.2.1 version . We are planning to upgrade to cognos 11.

We installed cognos 11 in dev sever , now for testing we are planning to take a content store back up of production one and restore it in a different test server and then make this cognos 11 point to that restored dtaabase .
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEP7J_11.0.0/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.inst_cr_winux.doc/c_upgrd_moveyourcontent.html

Above is the link to move the content

it also says
When configuring security, ensure that you set the unique identifier to the same value as it was in the release that you are upgrading from, otherwise the security settings will be lost.

how to set the unique identifier and where to set this .

can anyone tell me the exact steps to move the content store and update the service .
Do i just change the content store location in ibm cognos configuration and restart the service .
DO I also need to run the consistency check on content store, how do i do that .

Thanks,
Nithya

Hi,

You essentially have two options you could use:

1. As above point Cognos Analytics at a copy of the old content store database. When it connects and starts the service, it should upgrade the content store.
2. Create a full export deployment archive from Cognos 10.2.1, configure Cognos Analytics with a new, empty content store, then import the deployment archive. Again, you can get the process to upgrade everything.

The thing to be careful of on the security side is that you configure the exact same provider in the exact same way in Cognos Analytics and Cognos 10.2.1. Depending on which provider you use, there are different config settings to define in Cognos Configuration. The key thing is to set them up exactly the same. Generally the unique identifier for an authentication provider is the Namespace ID. If you use different values for this in CA vs C10, your existing CAMIDs will not be recognised, so you will need to re-define all your security rules. If you set everything up the same, you should have no issues.

Cheers!

MF.
