Here's a link to the Supported Environments page :)

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27042164

As you can see, Windows Server 2012 R2 is the latest Windows server OS supported for Cognos 10.2.2

Thank you MFGF. I just checked the compatibility report . Windows Server 2016 is not in supported list.

I have one doubt. Framework manager is 32 bit right ? Can we install this on Windows 10 Enterprise 64 bit OS ?

Thanks ,

Hi,

If you follow the link above and select Operating Systems, you will see that Windows 10 Enterprise is a supported OS. Windows 10 64-bit will run both 64-bit and 32-bit applications, so it's not an issue that Framework Manager is 32-bit. So in summary, yes - you can install on Windows 10 Enterprise 64 bit OS.

Cheers!

We run all client installs 32bit with 64bit server (Client tools are not allowed on the server). Windows 10 Enterprise has not been an issue.

Since 10.2.2 support - and fix packs - will stop at the end of April 2018, Support in the OS is kind of a moot point.

I heard IBM has announced extended support for 10.2.x from next April (at a cost) :)

Thanks, sorry to have forgotten about that. If that is on top of our Passport agreement, I cannot imagine it would be approved for budgeting.

Consider that your software provider (e.g. IBM) can only certify the correct working of its software with any related software (operating system, database) that is available at the time of its release. I guess that Cognos 10.2.2 is released before the availability of Windows Server 2016. So most likely it's not certified. It does not mean it won't work. Just as that my client's Cognos 10.1 speaks perfectly with SQL Server 2016, even though it's not certified.

The risk is, though, that if you go to IBM for support, they might insist you replicate any issue using a supported environment before they agree to help. This can make support issues become really ugly and lengthy, and many businesses wouldn't want to jeopardise their reporting by putting themselves in a position where they can't get support for issues.

Bottom line is that although it might work, it's not supported. :)

Luckily soon they will refuse to support Cognos 10 regardless of the OS you install it on, so then that issue drifts away.  8) ;D

Hi,

The below technote details IBM's "Continuing Support" policy for Cognos 10.2.x after the official April 2018 deadline expires

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg22005165

As you can see, it's no-cost (over and above the normal S&S IBM charge anyway), and it means we can still get support for 10.2.x versions for a while.

Cheers!
