Title: conditional formatting/display in Cognos 11
Post by: DragonLady on 03 Mar 2017 08:00:26 AM
My conditional formatting isn't working in version 11 and I can't find any how to's that apply to 11.  Instructions for 10 aren't relevant.

I'm up to the point where I've set up the variables but how do I hide/show based on these?

I need these 3 variables to keep the denominator working but only want to display one of the variables.  Is there something other than conditional formatting to accomplish this?

Hi,

The approach you would use in Cognos 10 is still relevant - it's just that the options are now in different places in the UI. Can you tell us where you're getting stuck?

Hi,

1. Click on the Query button in the navigation bar
2. Click on the Variables tab
3. You can add and select variables from here

Set up 'string1' via style variable and set up it's outputs.  Select Page1.
Select crosstab dimension then ?  C10 says (List column) body style.  I think I'm missing this translation in C11.
I've tried this:
Note: I have 2 stacked dimensions.
Set up 'string1'. I see my options under style variable after selecting the crosstab. Select conditional explorer & I see my variables under 'string1'.  Select crosstab dimension to conditionally hide.  Select variable constant 'xyz'  under string1.  Get msg "String variable 'string1' is set to 'xyz'".  When I run the report there's no change.

I've selected the crosstab from Page1  properties.  Setting  the style variable shows the options, selected the variable to show.
'Conditional style 1' is set up for background color green(don't hide) and red (hide) colors as an interim but the report is all displaying  "red/hide" on the facts area, no green.
I feel like I've selected the wrong area or something when I set up these.

Are you creating a crosstab? If so, you're not going to find an object in it called List Column Body Style - either in Cognos Analytics or Cognos 10. List Column Body Style is something you'd find in a List object, not a crosstab. What is it you're trying to select?

I'm finding it very difficult to understand what you're trying to do here. Can you explain in simple terms a muppet like me can understand? :)

Sorry, I got too far into the weeds.
I'm creating (4) crosstabs to get to (4) charts.  Each is a different piece.  I'm using conditional formatting because I need all the data to use in the denominator.
Thx for keeping on with me.

Let's go right back to basics here. Are you using a dimensional or a relational package?

What is the requirement? I understand you need some sort of grand total to divide something, but what specifically? What is the requirement you're trying to achieve?

Sorry if this is a repeat follow up, I couldn't find my reply actually sent.

I have a relational package.

signed Confused about where to click in C11 while setting up a conditional string variable to get any of my by 2 by 2 quadrant Crosstab reports to conditionally display.

For details on how to create variables and conditional styles in Cognos Analytics, take a look at the Reporting guide, Chapter 14:
