Hi and good morning, :)
Is there anyway to have a parameter established in the property sheet of the Report or Query that if a Report runs for
more than 20 minutes, it stops the Report from running. If this is possible, is there a way to send a message out to the user
or somewhere to say, Report got cancelled.
We had a Report that ran for a long time and since it couldn't find the data, it kept going until it crash the production
system with a Tera Byte of data cache as a part of the Cognos Server.
Thank you so much for your time.
I'm not aware of anything in a report/query that you could set to do that...but it's a very cool idea! There might be a global setting that would control how long a report can run for, but I don't where it would be.

Actually, there's a governor for that :)
In FM, go to Project >Edit Governors, and set the Query Execution Time Limit (seconds) to be 1200. Re-publish your package, and all reports based on the package will inherit the governor :)
Cheers!

Ah, I'll try that. Thx so much once again for your time. :) :)
Does that send a message when a report/query hits the govenor though? (that sounds like a line from a Guy Ritchie movie somehow...)

I believe a user would see a message telling them they have exceeded the governor setting if they ran a report taking longer than the limit. You might want to try using a test package with a very small threshold - see what happens?
Cheers!

Sounds good. I'll try it.
The song was probably for Madonna. :) :)
