Title: dynamic filtering in Cognos 10
Post by: samadams on 20 Dec 2016 07:53:54 AM
Is there a way to create dynamic filters on columns in Report Studio - similar to what is available in Excel?

In Cognos Analytics 11 you can run a report with full interactivity which provides the option to apply filtering and sorting, among other things. There is a property setting that controls whether to run with full interactivity or not. I'm not aware of anything comparable in C10.

The equivalent in Cognos 10 would be to bring the report into Cognos Workspace, and use the interactive filtering available there.

...or setting up active reports with controls filtering a list.

Setting up data toggle button bars inside sized blocks scrolling on overflow creates an effect somewhat comparable to Excel's slicers (in context of pivot tables).

Cognos Workspace is considered legacy upon migration to C11. If you aren't already using it already in your organization you might want to consider that it will ultimately be replaced in coming versions before you introduce it.

Of course they've been saying that about Query Studio and Analysis Studio for the better part of a decade now and they are still available, albeit poor cousins compared to newer functionality IMHO.
