Title: Data Movement Service in 10.2.2
Post by: avi25ge on 17 Dec 2016 03:59:09 PM
I have Cognos Data Manager 10.1.1 but Cognos connection is 10.2.2.  Could you let me know how and if the data movement service can work on 10.2.2. What is the process to configure with this version difference.

Hi,

The official answer is that you can't - you're mixing versions of BI server and Data Manager, which officially isn't supported.

Unofficially, I have heard that some people have it working (although I'm not sure how reliably). That was using Data Manager 10.2.1, though, not 10.1.1. I think the approach was to install it with a 10.2.1 dispatcher, then configure this dispatcher as part of the 10.2.2 instance.

This is all hearsay, though - it's not something I've tried personally...

Hey guys.

I succeded in installing a DM 10.2.1 dispatcher in a 10.2.2 environment.

Data Movement Service is working as well.

Basically, all you have to do is install the Application Tier (10.2.1) in the same location of Data Manager Server (10.2.1), then register this dispatcher at the 10.2.2 Content Manager/Store.

If you guys need more details, I'd be glad to build a complete post here.

Catch you on the flipside.

Is it possible to make this work with Cognos 11?

Hi,

You're in completely uncharted waters here. Some parts of the Cognos Analytics architecture are the same or similar to Cognos 10, so the answer is a tentative "possibly". I'd suggest you set up a sandbox environment and give it a try, to see how far you can get. Do bear in mind that the instance you end up with will be totally out of support, so that's a concern if this is planned for a production environment.

Good luck and happy experimenting!
