Title: Cognos Inactivity timeout
Post by: Asad Ch on 27 Sep 2016 12:24:37 PM
Can i set Inactivity timeout to 600sec (10mins) so that idle users can log out automatically after 10 mins.
Is there any adverse effect of it on cognos performance? Is it a good practice?
Will it decrease the load on server?

You certainly can set it to 10 mins. Cognos recommends 15 minutes if your company doesn't have a security policy around this, but the best practice is whatever your company's standards are.

There are no adverse effects on performance, nor any real improvements in standard environments. The default in Cognos I believe is one hour, which is way too long in my opinion.

Just another opinion, but in addition to policy, I think the ideal setting depends on the nature of your user's jobs. I have worked in places where there would be a lot of annoyed users if Cognos logged someone out because they were called away to a one-hour meeting. In other environments, I can see it being shortened to 10 minutes or whatever.
