Hello,
I am setting a new installation of Cognos 8.2 BI with email capabilities. I have gone into the notification and setup my SMTP mail Sever, account password and Default sender. SMTP is setup on the box that the installation is on but I am not able to send emails. The test of the notification service works and I am not getting any errors in my cogserver.log.
Any ideas? Are there any settings in IIS SMTP that need to be set (I believe the settings are set at default)
Thanks for your help
Hi,
A common cause of these kinds of email problems is interference from a virus scanner. In my case, I was running McAfee VirusScan, and it had a rule blocking "mass mailing worms" on Port 25 which was preventing anything from being delivered via email from Cognos 8. All I had to do was to disable this rule, and my emails then appeared.

MF.
Thanks for the information. I did have the mass mailing setup. I took that off and still can't email.
Is there anything that needs to be setup in SMTP? Right now I just have the default domain for the server setup.
Hi,
In Cognos Configuration you will need to specify the SMTP mail Sever (servername:25), account and password, and the default sender. That's all.

I have it setup in Cognos config and in it tests out without error. There are no errors in the Cognos log. I am suspecting the problem is not in Cognos but either in the IIS SMTP setup or on the mail server. Just wanted to see if anyone else had these problem where it seems that Cognos Config is setup correctly but the mail still is not being sent
I had the same problem (cognos 8.2,windows 2003 and exhchange server 6.5), but i changed the account and password as myself. It Worked fine. I think it looks for the existing email account holder in exchange. Hope this helps. :-\
