Title: Long Delays during Cognos Startup
Post by: dwwright@uss.com on 27 May 2016 07:28:13 AM
Our Cognos 10 systems are about 4 years old now.  When we originally built them, the startup sequence proceeded quickly.  Now, we are noticing lengthy delays, and sometimes the startup fails, since it seems to hit a timeout at about 5 minutes.  (It might be the Windows service timeout.)   The longest delay occurs between "CM-SYS-2216 A Content Manager internal PRECACHEINITACTIONS task is complete" and "CM-SYS-2216 A Content Manager internal POSTINITACTIONS task is complete."

It seems to be doing some content management function, but I don't know exactly what that is.  Does anyone know what is actually happening at this time, and are there specific parts of the content store that can be reduced in size, in order to reduce the startup time?

Check heap memory allocation. High memory allocation slows down the startup time.

Hi kumarj_jk.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Our max heap setting is currently 2048 MB.  Does this seem to be high enough?  Would you recommend a higher setting than this?
