Title: PDF report to PowerPoint presentation
Post by: Sunchaser on 17 Apr 2016 09:34:45 AM
Dear all,

We have nice reports running in PDF (report studio), but the client asked for a Powerpoint outputs.
There is something I'm not sure about, when looking at the demo of the Cognos MS Office:
. If we have one report with page-set / page-break, and also nested objects in some pages, are we in a position to convert directly this report into a Powerpoint presentation, and get the same effect i.e. have the page-breaks respected, etc ... ?
As far as I have seen currently, it seems that with Cognos MS Office, it is possible "only" to insert in an existing (or new) PPT presentation a Cognos object, like one chart, and then one list, etc. But it seems not possible to refer to a complete set of pages.

Is it the case ?
Do you have some other examples ?

Thanks,
Kind regards,
V.

Hi,

When you run the import wizard in PowerPoint, you will see options for "Create new slides for report pages" and "Respect soft page breaks" - see image below:

Cheers!

Hi,

Thanks for the example.
So, now, I don't have the choice, I'll have to install and really test it ... It is funny, as I was hoping for a "no", as I'm not really happy with things like Power-point and so on.
::)

Thanks,
Vinc.

Hi,

Finally, I had the time to install the module.
I have been able to import in PowerPoint one of our reports, for testing ...  and the result is simply catastrophic.
It seems that none of the tables / lists used in the report are supported once imported in PowerPoint.
My current feeling is - excepted that I'm depressed - that it only works with basic listings, with a minimum of formatting, like no merged cells, no grouping, no list-headers, avoid several objects on the same page, etc, etc..
It seems that it does not support too the fact of having (for example) 2 graphs on the same page, one below the other.

Does anybody have a better experience than mine?

Thanks,
Kind regards
V.
