I'm fairly new to Cognos 8 Report Studio so this may seem like a dumb question, but whenever I try to move data objects around on the main Report page and even add new Queries in full there, it always adds the data blocks beside wherever I drag it to i.e. as new "columns" in the report; when dragging the option around I'll see that little black flashing vertical line between two columns to show where it will go. This seems to happen with everything, everywhere. How do I move stuff down or up into new rows, i.e. get a horizontal flashing line instead to move it between two main horizontal data blocks?
Hi,
It sounds as if you are creating a list report. A list container has a
single row defined, and will render this row as many times as there are records returned by the query that feeds it. The insert new item behaviour you describe is perfectly normal.
Could you give more info about your requirements? What exactly is your objective in wanting to position items below this row?
... oh, hang on, you mention ...
Quoteeven add add new Queries in full there
If you wish to have two lists, one above the other, on the report page you'll need to drag in a table from the toolbox, with one column and two rows. Drag List1 into the upper cell and List2 into the lower one. You might want more than two rows in your table, so that you can include header text, separators etc. The table is your friend when it comes to laying out multiple elements on a page.
Basically I'm making a report to give a nice printable layout for a PDM-Link Variance modified from the OOTB one that we got, but that one uses a basic list attribute that grabs all the main ones from the Variance in some undefined format. I want to directly control where each attribute shows up on the list vertically so it has a more logical flow when people read it, so I made a new PDM query to "feed" Cognos with the data and want to cherry-pick specific attributes and vertically lay them out in the order I want. But it sounds like I'll have to try the Table option you mentioned, thanks for that, I'll see if it works.
