Title: How about administrators
Post by: sunosoft on 04 Jan 2016 07:42:09 PM
Hi,

Any idea what are the changes in administration area like configuration, services, security etc ?

I hope there would be some tasks to do for admins in new version so that admins will not be jobless :P :)

The Admin Console is still there in its original form, so no major changes in this release. There are one or two minor changes - eg when setting up a data source, there is now an "Allow web-based modelling" checkbox which governs whether the data source is available for use when creating Data Modules through the browser interface.

Cheers!

MF.

Thanks for your response MF.

I tried searching documentation for this version but did not find any.
Any idea on whether IBM has released/published all documents for this version like we have for older versions ?

Hi Mark

I do not see the 'allow web-based modeling' check box when creating a new data source with Cognos Administration or on any data sources that have been migrated in from a deployment archive. Is this is a Capability that needs assigning within Cognos Security ?

It's a property of the data source and is accessible via the administration console.

1.  Manage/administration console
2.  Configuration/data source connections
3.  Click on the set properties button for the data source.
4.  click on the connection tab.
At the bottom is a check box labeled allow web-based modeling.

This will expose the data source aka data server.

This is documented in the installation and configuration guide.

This is the URL to the Cognos Analytics documentation
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEP7J_11.0.0/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.cbi.doc/welcome.html?cp=SSEP7J_11.0.0%2F0&lang=en

In addition there is a new capability called web-based modeling.  This controls the users and roles who are allowed to see the data module menu item.  By default the everyone role has that capability.

The new capabilities are Dashboard, Manage content, Snapshots, Upload files and Web-based modeling.

Im coming from 10.2.1 so there were a few changes in admin for CA.  nice to see mobile is there by default just have to implement and validate.

dynamic cube support is better and the search feature is working w/o the need of building an index (so far)!!

Its the front end with cognos connection that cognos dev team reinvented the wheel.

Don't worry

There will be plenty to do for admins, mostly finding work arounds for items that have not been included in C11 and dealing with support raising issues, defects and Request for enhancements (after you find a defect, and are told its working as expected.) Working out how things are done in C11 as there is no documentation, then when there is documentation, finding out that the documentation has been released before the product is ready (save to file system) spending days trying to figure stuff out, questioning yourself, when in  actual fact the product and product testing has just not been through enough.. Finding out the the most basic things that have been around since reportnet, things that companies have relied on for years are not there any more and there is no alternative in place, having to wait months to see the 'fix appear' in the next release. Then to top it off, there's the Over the top install, which is complete re-install, IBM has made a good attempt at saving files they think you might need, but then, blow ever thing else away, there is no "Fix Pack", hots sites are the same as an over the opt, (blow everything away) regression test like you life depends on it.

So Please don't worry, you'll be busier than ever..
