Title: Creation of Data Source (SQL Server) in FM - failed
Post by: sunlight on 16 Dec 2015 11:38:44 AM
QE-DEF-0285 The logon failed

Cannot create data source in Framework Manager 10.2.1. When I test the Data Source Connection (MS SQL Server) in Cognos Administration - it is succeeded.

Do you have any ideas?

It says that the login for the user 'sa' failed (sa is the superuser in SQL Server) . Check the password for 'sa' and try again.  It's possible that the data source in Administration has the credentials embedded in it and has the correct credentials.

By the way, I never use 'sa' in any data sources. Cognos needs only read access for the database which contains data and read-write for Content Store. In both the cases, 'sa' is not required.

Please, do not use the sa login. There is never any reason to do that - not ever.

Most places I have worked will not even give you the password for sa, and even those one or two who have it never use it.

Thanks for the replies!

I found my mistake, database "TestDB_16.dec" did not exit, I thought I just need to give a name for my Data Source. Now I entered "GOSALES" and it works!

P.S. I am new in Cognos/Database topics, so I have no idea, that sa login typically is not used.
