First post so hello and all, nice to see such a large and dedicated community just for Cognos! Anyway I've been using Cognos for some months now and have the basics of it down(I think), I'm certainly no expert but seem to be good at problem solving any issues we are having with the system.
I am working on a clients Cognos installation and soon we will have to migrate it to another server, but unfortunately there's no documentation as to which data sources point where. Now I've managed to get a reasonable amount of info out of Cognos Connection Administration (version 10.1.1) as far as credentials go to work this out, but the one thing we cannot extract is the location of the server the data source is pointing to.
Of course any other credentials would save a lot of time to prepare this installation for the migration. But the main question is: is there any way to find out the location of a data sources' server?
Any help/advice you guys could offer would be amazing and who knows one day I may be able to help some other person with Cognos troubles!

Hi,
Generally you can find out where a data source connection is pointing to simply by looking at how it is defined. Within the Admin console, most data source connections have three levels - the top level is a logical name, second level is the connection definition, and third level is the signon information. This means you can drill down one level in your data source, edit the properties of the connection, and see where it is pointing to.
Cheers!
MF.
Thanks for the reply MFGF! Yeah I had a look there and couldn't see it at first, but after I dug around a little more at the second level where all the connection information is I found the server name in the connection string field :) Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction!
