Title: Slicer concept
Post by: Cognos8 on 23 Sep 2015 12:07:51 AM
Hi,

As we all know using Slicer in DMR or Dynamic cube reporting is the best practice. But when we should not and should use Slicer?
I noticed below point in net. Does it mean slicer should not be used when the members used in cross tab ? If i have prompt as Product type and  need to display this in cross tab and should not use in slicer and use it in detail filter ?

Please shred some light on this concept. Appreciate your reply.

"Slicers are best leveraged only when the members being sliced are not contained within the crosstab"

Hi,

Think of a slicer as being a context filter. If you want to change the context of the numbers (measure values) in your report, then defining a slicer will do this. It will not, however, affect the members you use on the row/column edges of your report. It affects only measure values.

You should not use a detail filter if you want to control the members displayed on the row/column edges, though. Instead, simply choose the members you require from the package tree, or use a dimensional expression to specify which members to read.

Oh, did I mention you shouldn't use detail filters?

Cheers!

MF.

PS. Don't use detail filters! :)

I'm confused now, your reply is rather ambiguous Muppet...should I be using detail filters or not?  ;D

DO NOT USE DETAIL FILTERS ON DIMENSIONAL DATA!!

How's that for unambiguous? 8)

Ummmmm. Not sure. You need to stop dithering and say exactly what you mean. No umming and ahhing. No rambling. Be concise. Be bold. Stop beating about the bush. No waffling. No subtlety. Just say it as it is. Or something ;)
