Title: How to make size of 2 pie chart/circle in same in report studio
Post by: nsaxena on 24 Jun 2015 10:07:26 AM
Hi All ,

Please refer to attach image

I have created two pie charts(both from same query) but different calculations. They are placed size by size in 2 different columns of a table.
The pie chart one is sliced based on 7 items and pie chart 2 is sliced based on 5 items which are different from pie chart one.
Please refer to attach image.

How to make size of circle same for both pie chart.Currently pie chart 1(left in image ) is appearing bigger than 2(right in image)

Please suggest. Thanks!

Have you tried setting a fixed size for the pies? You may also need to set fixed sizes for the table cells.

My guess is that if you remove the values display for the slices, they will appear the same size. I suspect it's the length of the displayed values on the pie chart on the right that is reducing the landscape available for the pie itself. Try playing with the Size & Overflow property of each until you get them the same overall size with the values displayed.

Could you try an alternative approach? Take a look at the attached bar charts and see if they're easier to read and use than your pie charts.

Hi BigChris ,

The image looks great to me....how can i implement same in pie chart..mean while i figure out the reason why pie chart are appearing different in size...

For Pie chart on right..
i am creating one data item which is sum of all measures for which we need slice in pie...example :-
New data item :-[BenchRollOff]+[Contractor]+[GraduateHire]+[ExternalHire]+[Other]+[Rotation]+[Blank]

Above data item i am using as default measure and in series i am using each of the above 7 individual items..one below the other...

Same approach i am using for pie chart on right...

now size is coming difference because of the different in size of of the new  data item(i am using as default measure) ...if i change the
size of individual data item which i am using for sum....the size is changing...i have to play with name change....

but i dont know why this is happening..any fix for this??

My point is that there are other formats of chart that give an easier to read output. I don't know how to fix your problem with pie charts...primarily because I NEVER use them.

I agree with you....that other chart will be simpler to use for this...
but my hands are tied as its kinda requirement :(

I agree with BigChris on this point. There are lots of good articles and posts here on Cognoise about why pie charts are generally not the most effective choice. Even when one's role is as a developer tasked with implementing requirements provided by others it should generally be acceptable to guide those requirements by providing alternatives with justification reasoning. Here is a thread with some good resources on the topic in case those responsible for defining your requirements have an open ear: http://www.cognoise.com/index.php/topic,28203.msg90570.html#msg90570
