I would like to expand my knowledge in upgrading Cognos from one version to the other. I would appreciate it if anyone could please explain to me the difference between 'Upgrading' and 'Migration' ?

When the tools/technology changes between the versions then it is migration otherwise it is an upgrade. When a new tool is introduced in the new version then also it's an upgrade because that is not a 'change' of tool from the previous version. My good friend MFGF had provided the best definition some time back. It was something like this:
When you are painting/remodeling your house then it's an upgrade but when you are moving to a bigger house then it's a migration :)
It can also refer to the implementation method when moving to a new version:
I upgrade existing servers but I migrate to new servers.

Could anyone please give me a brief overview (steps wise if possible) of Upgrading and Migration. Im getting lost in all the indepth material thats out there, So a brief overview would help in comprehending the concepts a little easier.

If you try to be a little more specific then we can help. What's you current environment and version and which version are you trying to go to?

Yup ! Used to be even better but alcohol has taken its toll ! IBM's should focus on releasing new versions of memory, liver, heart and kidneys. Releasing versions of Cognos every time is just monotonous !

I am really sorry for not being specific. I just want to expand my knowledge on Upgrading and Migration of Cognos in general. I would be really thankful if you could please give me a brief overview (steps wise if possible) of Upgrading and Migration on WINDOWS SERVER. For example, from upgrading point of view it's10.1.1 to 10.2. From migration point of view, it's from Windows server A to Wndows Server B
