Title: Build two crosstabs from different packages
Post by: cognos05 on 05 Jan 2015 01:21:49 PM
Hi,

We have two packages , Say one has the sales information of certain product category X and another package which has sales of different product category  Y.

We were not able to have these details together in a single package, so we had created two.

Now every user has to login in to both packages separately to see their sales data for respective products.

I would like to create a standard report which will have two crosstabs with first cross tab showing data from package 1 and second crosstab showing data from package 2.

Is this possible, because whenever i open report studio it allows me to select only one package.

Is there a way to achieve this ?

Thanks,
Nithya

Hello nithya1224,
Just to get a better understanding of what you are after, What do you mean by "Login to both packages"?.
If you cannot get both the sources of data within one package, then I believe the best way to do this would be creating the two reports separately and then use Cognos Pages with Portlets in them. Each portlet would have a Cognos Viewer utility in it, each viewer pointing to the two different reports.

Hi,

I have two different packages and I will create two reports from each package and I want to show these two reports to user. Ya..some thing similar to cognos portlets that you have mentioned.

I haven't used portlets and I will check on how to implement it.

Thank you.

Thanks,

If you are using Cognos 10.2.1 or later, you can add other reports as pages to a report you are building - even if the other reports are based on different packages. Go to Page Explorer, select Report Pages, then drag in a Report Reference object from the toolbox and select the report you want to bring in.

Cheers!

Hi Nithya,

You have two options:
1- Create your own dashboard that contains the two reports
2- In order to have both crosstab in Report Studio, you need to have one package that contains your two packages. This needs to be done in Frame Work Manager. You need two namespaces (i.e:  product category X and  product category Y). When you publish your package you select both namespaces to be published. That way when you build the report you will have the option of choosing between the too

Hope this helps
Thanks,
Faouzi

I'm not an expert, but if I understand the question correctly you have 2 reports (crosstabs) based off of 2 separate packages and you want to bring them into the one report page?
If yes, then I think we can create a separate Namespace in FM with all the query subjects which you need for Package 2 and publish under the same package. so, you end up using only one package but you can build separate reports.
Sorry if it doesn't make any sense at all  :(

Good luck :)
