Title: Cognos Performance Optimization
Post by: esar on 16 Dec 2014 01:24:56 PM
Hi Experts,

Is there any tool available, that gives the settings for Hig/Low affinity and Max number of process and other related setting when we specify the number of cores, users and memory available.?

Hi there

As far as I'm aware there are no tools that provide that setting
You need to first understand what the affinity settings are for - e.g. - http://164.100.132.76/ibmcognos/documentation/en/crn_arch_c_arch_settingaffinityconnections.html
Then you need to simulate load on your installation using JMETER or SDK to build up your environmental characteristics.
Once you have some familiarity with your environment then you will refer to your known Business requirements and expected concurrency requirements and basically test for best and worst case concurrency.

I think IBM set this concurrency at 2% of total user base.
But there are a few other conditions that you need to factor in,
Such as
1. Types of reports
2. Types of data sources
3. 24 hour load cycles of data sources
4. Concurrent peak and trough characteristics over a period (week minimum)
5. Number of Schedules

The information above in a mature installation is usually already know and so you can apply a rule of thumb to your settings but you'll inevitably revisit them as the environment changes

Sorry there's no silver bullet.
Happy Holidays
