Title: 10.2.2 User Interface Profiles
Post by: vetteheadracer on 04 Dec 2014 03:47:48 PM
So IBM have added a new feature which allows custom interfaces for Report Studio and Workspace Advanced.

From the Security Tab there is a new option which only appears until you click the new icon up in the top right.

Once you take a brave pill and click the stern "you can only run this once and it is non-reversible" button you get a new option User Interface Profiles on the Library tab!

Then you need to create Copies of the two default profiles "Report Studio Professional", "Cognos Workspace Advanced" as you can't edit them.

Creating the new version for me caused a few blank page issues but once created you can then edit the copies and completely customise the experience for different user groups.

Yep - it works rather well! I created a profile that provides full Report Studio UI capabilities, and adds in the "live data" feature from CWA. It took me a little while to figure out which option drives this, but I was very pleased with the end result! :)

The customization is great, we are using it for Workspace Advanced Users who access Cognos through a Custom UI.

I need to figure out how in the Security the users can see my custom UI Profiles as at the moment my crash test dummy user can only see the two standard profiles.

On this subject under the User Interface Profiles under the Library I have my profiles but for the User Interface Profiles there is no Set Properties option. I have Visualizations for example and that has a set properties.

Anyone know how to get the Set Propoerties for the User Interface Profile level?

Hi MF!

Just wondering which options did you change to enable this? This seems like a very useful feature to have in report studio :D

I don't remember precisely, sorry. It was in an instance that has since been replaced with Cognos Analytics, so I can't go back and check...

I never saw any difference in performance.

Cheers!

From what I have observer when we are migrating standard profiles to custom profiles and create custom profiles to define functionalities for users or groups, Cognos has to take extra measures before allowing the user to open any tool and check in background for the user access permisions.
These extra measures taken by cognos will not come in picture if a single report is being run but they do come when thousand users are using tools to run reports at the same time. Though the performance issue is not that much but yes, it is still there. It all depends on your active directory and extent of custom profiles being used.

How about the security applied and roles that are already defined, does all the settings migrate over or are lost?
