Title: IBM Connections licenses
Post by: duncann on 13 Nov 2014 09:04:24 PM
Our Cognos BI licenses are due for renewal and with the new licensing model we have had some licenses automatically changed to Analytics User and Analytics Explorer. We also have listed on the renewal notice some IBM Connections licenses. My question is do I need these IBM Connections licenses? We do not use it currently for other IBM social software to my knowledge.

I think these come bundled in with Cognos 10 BI licenses at no extra cost. They provide the rights for Cognos users to use IBM Connections if you choose to install it. I might be wrong, though. I'd suggest you check with your IBM Account Manager to see what your current license entitlements are and to make sure that you're not paying for licenses you don't use.

Cheers!

IBM Connections requires Notes server (whatever it is called).

The licenses were free when they "split" the license a year or two ago.  Once you have them, though, you pay renewal maintenance fees unless you specifically request to get them removed from your invoice.  They showed up on the most recent renewal and we had them pulled.
