Title: FM can't handle one table.
Post by: intrepid402 on 14 Oct 2014 02:10:58 PM
Hi y'all,
I am having this really weird issue...
I am unable to import one specific table/view with Metadata Wizard. FM hangs when I try to import this one specific view. I am able to import everything else perfectly fine.

I thought this could be access issue, but I am able to use select statement with my database tools to get the columns though. The number of columns are 733, you think this is the issue?
We are using Teradata as our backend so it should handle 2048 columns in a table.

I don't know if there are any limitations in the latest version (10.2.1.4) but back in 2008, we could only have 500 fields in one query subject (that was the answer given by IBM at that time). Not sure which version was that, probably 8.4

I let it import overnight and I was able to see it in the morning. So since there are 700 columns, Cognos executes them before importing to make sure there are no errors (based on what was told to me). We are using 10.2 version.
So sometimes patience pays off I suppose. Although it looks like FM hangs, just let it sit and do its thing for 3-4 hours and eventually it does its job...
You think FM is dead, but it comes alive after that!

Now I remember what I did to make the modeling faster. It behaved the same way as you described so I had disconnected FM from
the DB, did the modeling , saved , closed it , opened it and then validated. That validation used to take hours but this way you can
do all of your modeling without having to wait that much time each time you make a change.
